You may remember Universal Language Music from the end of last year as one of the labels we tipped for big things in 2014. A hub for introverted deep house, soulful techno and slick downtempo soul music, ULM exists solely as an outlet for the music of one Myronn Deye, known more widely to the world under his moniker Universal Appearance.

Deye’s previous forays in drum & bass and autonomic style electronica as DiamonD EyE have over the past couple of years given way to a more pressing passion of his; interpreting and imitating the raw, computerised sounds of Detroit and Berlin.

A handful of EPs over the past twelve months have introduced us to the refreshingly subtle tones and slow-burning ethos of his productions, and we’ve been nothing if not impressed, so it seemed natural to get him on board for the first UE mix of the year. Offering up a 50-minute collection of exclusively his own productions, including the excellent Outward on ULM003, Deye exhibits his true versatility, taking in the peripheries of spacey house and groovy techno throughout.
