Dubliner Michael Lovatt came onto our radar via a Mike Huckaby radio show a couple of years back, with the velvety smooth ‘Tides’, after which we hit him up for one of our best house mixes of 2016.

His next release is the Side Effects EP, his first in over two years, and it comes via Leeds based imprint Midnight Social Recordings, a label run by Carlo Gambino trading in deeper than deep house that’s seen releases from Denney and Dudley Strangeways.

‘Mata’ is a deep slung roller of note with afro swing and peppered with euphoric jungle era pads. But when those pads drop away, what’s left is a monstrous earthy groove. Early support from Robert Owens on this one, so you know it bangs.
